Costco Supports Education

Costco founder Robert Craves is leading the way in educational initiatives amonst retail giants.

Craves, a Costco senior vice president emeritus, said he knows there’s plenty of money in the business community. He is challenging leaders to join together and raise money for high-potential, low-income high school students. Accomplished employees and people with money to spend will be the pay off, he says.

Georgia Scholarship $1,000

High school seniors and college students attending school in Georgia have the opportunity to apply for a $1000 scholarship. The Walter Harrison Scholarship program awards $1,000 to students attending any vocational school or two- or four-year accredited college or university in Georgia.

The scholarships are awarded on the basis of academic achievement and financial need. The program was started by the Energy Cooperatives in Georgia’s to honor Walter Harrison, a pioneer in providing electricity in rural Georgia.

College Board Scholarship Handbook

The 615 page College Board Scholarship Handbook is a resource of information about over 2,100 scholarships, internships, and loan programs offered to undergraduate college students. These are scholarships that are offered by foundations, charitable organizations and state and federal government agencies.

Los Angeles Scholarship

The second annual Los Angeles college scholarship program presented by California Credit Union has been announced. This scholarship is for graduating high school seniors in Los Angeles County schools and also for Los Angeles Community College District (LACCD) students who will be returning or graduating.

Students must have a GPA of 3.0 or higher and attend an accredited college or university in 2006 in order to apply for the Los Angeles scholarship program from the California Credit Union. Deadline for applications is March 31, 2006.

A total of $35,000 will be awarded by the credit union, $1,000 scholarships each to 35 Los Angeles college students.

American Indian Education Foundation Scholarships

American Indian Education Foundation offers three scholarship opportunities for American Indian and Alaska Native students. Scholarships are awarded for each school year to undergraduate students.

JP Morgan Chase Scholarship for Hispanic Students

The Hispanic Scholarship Fund and and JP Morgan Chase have partnered to provide a $2,500 scholarship for Hispanic students nationwide.

To be eligible student must be persuing undergraduate degrees in business administration, finance, or economics. Students must also be classified as a sophomore or junior, enrolled full-time and have at least a 3.0 GPA.

Choose The Right College, Get More Financial Aid
When San Diego resident Sarah Lambeth was choosing a college four years ago, East Coast schools were on the top of her list.

After narrowing her choices to colleges that best suited her academic credentials and goals, she ended up picking the University of Southern California, which granted the largest financial aid package.

If your child can match their academic record with the right college, they may be able to obtain grants that don’t have to be repaid and are sometimes awarded regardless of financial need.

Massachusetts Financial Aid Seminars

Financial aid seminars will be offered by Williams College, Massachusetts College of Liberal Arts and Berkshire Community College. High school students and parents are encouraged to attend to learn more about financing a college education.

The second seminar will be held today at Lee High School / Lenox Memorial High School at Lenox Memorial High School. Additional semiars will be offered during the first two weeks of December with the final opportunity to attend on Saturday, January 7 2006.

United Methodist Scholarships

A variety of scholarships are available for students attending United Methodist related colleges, studying for a religion related degree and/or students who attend Methodist churches pursuing other areas of study besides religion.

United Methodist scholarships are available to undergraduate students at more than 100 United Methodist-related colleges and universities. Many of the scholarships for graduate students are designated for persons pursuing a degree in theological studies (M.Div., D.Min., Ph.D.), higher education administration or older adults changing their careers. Scholarships for racial ethnic undergraduate or graduate students and UM students at non-UM schools are also available.
