Scholarships for Midland Odessa Texas Area Students

The Permian Basin Area Foundation offers a variety of academic scholarships to help students graduating from high schools and/or attending colleges in the region. Students attending high school in Midland, Odessa, and many rural counties in west Texas may qualify for these scholarships.

There are college scholarships available for students from the following Texas counties: Andrews, Borden, Brewster, Cochran, Coke, Crane, Crockett,
Culberson, Dawson, Ector, Gaines, Garza, Glasscock, Hockley, Howard, Hudspeth, Jeff Davis, Kent, Loving, Lynn, Martin, Midland, Mitchell, Pecos, Presidio, Reagan, Reeves, Scurry, Sterling, Upton, Ward, Winkler and Yoakum.

Illinois VFW Youth Scholarship

The Troy VFW offers a youth scholarship competition for local Illinois students. There are several differnt age categories for students in 4-12. Several categories are available including art, essay, audio essay and poster contests.

The deadline for essay contests is October 31, 2005 and March 29, 2006 for the high school art contest.

State University of New York Scholarships

The State University of New York at Cobleskill has received its largest gift ever, a $165,000 donation from 1961 graduate Gerald Schopinsky.

Wyoming College Prep Program

The Wyoming state education department recently announced a $24 million program to help prepare lower-income students for college entrance.

The GEAR UP program – short for Gaining Early Awareness and Readiness for Undergraduate Programs – will give up to 2,000 eligible students advice on classes they should take, careers they might consider and how to apply for college.

$42 million program aids would-be collegians

The program will work in conjunction with another initiative, the Hathaway Scholarship, which is expected to provide financial aid for eligible college students through a $400 million endowment.

Portland State University Scholarships

PSU offers a variety of scholarships for students including awards based upon field of study. Other awards are based upon encouraging underrepresented groups. Scholarships for students of Native American and Hispanic heritage are available and have a deadline of July 29th.

Arizona PTA Scholarship

The Arizona State PTA sponsors a scholarship each year for students planning on going to college. The amount is $250 per semester.

Hard Working Student Earns Masons Scholarship

A second generation Mexican American student has been awarded a full scholarship from the Masons. The Grand Lodge of Colorado in Colorado Springs has awarded a full scholarship to Ruby Gonzalez, whose scholarship application was submitted by the Boulder Masons — Columbia Lodge No. 14.

The Masons who reviewed her application cited several reasons for designating Ruby as an outstanding student. She was very diligent with her studies while maintaining a balance with school and family needs. The written essay and letters of recommendation were also instrumental in helping her achieve this award.

Missouri Agency Puts Freeze on Scholarships

Source: Columbia Missourian – The state of Missouri has decided to freeze the maximum amount of need-based scholarship dollars available to each student. More students will be able to qualify for aid, eventhough the maximum amount is less.

Arizona State University Athletic Scholarships Get a Boost

Under the matching grant program, donations made by individuals who are first time donors to the Sun Angel Foundation, will be matched on a 2-to-1 basis with a maximum of $5,000 per gift.
