The Bryce Thomson Scholarship Award
The National Ice Cream Retailers Association (NICRA) annually sponsors the Bryce Thomson Scholarship Award for full-time or part-time employees of Active members. The Board of Directors of NICRA established the award in 1995, honoring Bryce Thomson, a man whose 55-plus years of commitment to the ice cream industry is unparalleled.
Active members of NICRA may nominate one or more of their employees for the scholarship. Nominees should be high school seniors who have applied or have already been accepted at an accredited college or university, or current college freshmen, college sophomores or college juniors.
NICRA’s Bryce Thomson Scholarship Committee will select the winners based upon established criteria approved by the NICRA Board of Directors. Nominees must display a strong academic record, leadership in both school and community activities or part-time work schedule and demonstrate financial need. A letter of recommendation from the NICRA Active member employer is also part of the selection criteria.
The winners will be announced at the 2008 NICRA Annual Convention in St. Petersburg, Florida during the Scholarship Auction. This year ten scholarships will be awarded in the following amounts: one award for $3,500; two awards for $2,500 each; one award for $2,000; one award for $1,500; and five awards for $1,000, totaling $17,000. Students will also have a choice as to how the money is awarded, for tuition, books, lab fees or room and board.
An application fee of $25 for each nominee is required. The application fee is to be paid by the NICRA member store owner. Checks should be made payable to the Bryce Thomson Scholarship Fund.
Completed applications must be received in the NICRA office on or before Thursday, September 4, 2008.
