Virginia - Black Students Scholarship
A men’s club has been providing a scholarship for black high school seniors for 14 years. Graduating seniors in Virginia should apply for the scholarship.
Four years ago, the New River Valley Progressive Men’s Club upped that number to two $1,000 scholarships each year and will do so again this fall. Applications should be made by the end of June.
Gates Millennium Scholars Program for Minority Students
The Gates Millennium Scholars program is funded by a grant from the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation and is available to graduating high school seniors. The goal of this program is to promote academic excellence and to assist students with significant financial need.
To be eligible students must have one of the following backgrounds: African American, American Indian/Alaska Native, Asian Pacific Islander American, and Hispanic.
The scholarship is open to undergraduate students of all majors and graduate students in mathematics, science, engineering, education, or library science.
The Deadline for entering the Gates Millennium Scholars program is January 13, 2006

American Dream Scholarship for African Americans
The Sallie Mae Fund recently announced a commitment to renew its popular scholarship program with the United Negro College Fund (UNCF) — the “American Dream” scholarship. The Fund will provide a $500,000 grant to UNCF for 2006-2007 academic year scholarships, symbolizing a continuing commitment to help financially needy African-American students realize their college dreams. Since 2003, The Fund has made $2 million in scholarships available for the “American Dream” program.
NAACP Sponsors College Workshops This Saturday
NAACP National Day of College Preparation to Offer Free Workshops and Clinics for Students Seeking a Higher Education On October 29 Free SAT Test Clinics, College Admission and Financial Aid Workshops offered in 19 cities.
The NAACP, in partnership with The Princeton Review Foundation, and The Sallie Mae Fund will host 19 free college preparation clinics nationwide on Saturday, October 29, 2005 from 8 a.m. to 2:30 p.m.
